Description:

Osteo-Circuit™ is an evidence-informed Physiotherapy Exercise and Education Program for people with osteoporosis. Physiotherapists play a key role in reducing fracture risk while promoting health, function, confidence, and independence. Unique features of the Osteo-Circuit™ model include the integration of current evidence, medical management, and comprehensive physiotherapy assessment to guide individualized exercise prescription for people with osteoporosis, whether fit or frail, with or without vertebral fractures, male or female, and across the lifespan.

Participants will receive a voice-over PowerPoint to review prior to the course, providing an evidence-informed foundation in osteoporosis; falls and fractures; clinical features of vertebral fractures; diagnostic techniques; prevention and medical management; medications; exercise considerations for older adults and people with specific conditions; exercise prescription  for  vertebral fractures and the results of a Needs Analysis for Vertebral Fracture Rehabilitation.

A Program Evaluation conducted with the University of Toronto demonstrated a statistically significant reduction in fall and fracture risk among post-menopausal women who adhered to the program. The evaluation also recommended that Osteo-Circuit™ be expanded to other clinics and community settings.

During the course, participants will learn how to perform a comprehensive physiotherapy assessment, prescribe safe and effective individualized exercise and education programs, apply evidence-informed exercise progressions, and translate current research into confident clinical practice.

Upon completion of the course, participants will have the knowledge, clinical skills, assessment tools, exercise templates, and practical resources to immediately implement an evidence-informed, individualized, and progressive exercise and education program for people with osteoporosis in their own practice.

Following the course, participants are invited to join the Osteo-Circuit™ Community of Practice, providing ongoing access to updated resources, shared clinical expertise, and a growing network of physiotherapists committed to advancing excellence in osteoporosis care.

Physiotherapists can be found all across Nova Scotia.
