Taking the Fear Out of Falling in Healthcare
Falls are serious—but could our fear of falls sometimes be limiting the very movement older adults need to stay strong, independent and resilient?
This one-hour webinar invites healthcare providers to rethink traditional fall-prevention thinking through the lens of the 2022 World Guidelines for Falls Prevention and Management, emerging concepts such as independence with risk, and innovative work from Toronto Rehab’s Therapeutic Falls program.
We will explore how fear of falling can influence not only older adults, but also families, physiotherapists, nurses, PSWs, managers and healthcare organizations—and how those fears can unintentionally contribute to reduced mobility, deconditioning and loss of confidence.
Most importantly, we will look at how fall prevention can evolve from simply trying to avoid the next fall toward building the strength, mobility, confidence and resilience needed to better manage it when it happens.
