We are searching for a Physiotherapist to join our Allied Health Services Team within our Enhanced Care and Transition Health teams, based in various locations within Nova Scotia.

About the Opportunity

  • Supervises, trains and evaluates the physiotherapy/occupational therapy assistant as necessary including work assignments, disciplinary procedures, and performance evaluation
  • Assesses clients with physiotherapy related concerns such as decreased mobility, transfer concerns, range of motion, strength, balance, pain control
  • Develops individualized treatment plans based on clinical records, observation, or referral; confers with interdisciplinary staff regarding an overall treatment plan for clients
  • Provides treatment services for clients using physiotherapy techniques or modalities, such as hydrocollator, wax bath, TENs, etc.
  • Evaluates the progress of clients in relation to physiotherapy treatment provided through use of tests and observation; confers with nursing staff and physicians regarding effectiveness of treatment
  • Instructs clients in the care and use of wheelchairs, braces, canes, and prosthetic devices
  • Maintains an inventory of physiotherapy equipment and supplies
  • Provides leadership and oversight to all departmental activities to ensure compliance with policies, procedures, and applicable legislation
  • Outlines work assignments
  • Supervises, directs, and evaluates the work of the team
  • Documents according to policy and procedures (e.g Daily Resident Care Record, resident progress notes, incident reporting, PPCA, Critical Incidents etc.)
  • Evaluates the progress of Residents in relation to physiotherapy treatment provided through use of tests and observation; confers with nursing staff and physicians regarding effectiveness of treatment; participates in Resident care conferences as scheduled
  • Communicates appropriately and effectively, through verbal, nonverbal, written and electronic means, with the residents, Substitute Decision Makers, OT, PT, other members of the Wellness Team and interdisciplinary team
  • Explain treatment to residents as instructed
  • Prepares progress reports, funding requests, and statistical reports relating to physiotherapy treatment program and client needs and maintains treatment records as required
  • Trains staff on back care, lifts and transfers and other relevant topics
  • Ensures client safety by following and applying all standard operational procedures, safe work practices and training provided

About You

In addition to placing high value on continuous improvement, collaboration and accountability, you bring:

  • Master of Science in Physiotherapy
  • Current registration with the provincial Regulator of Physiotherapy
  • Minimum of two years’ clinical experience; previous experience in rehabilitation and geriatrics preferred
  • Previous supervisory experience
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Knowledge of the principles, methods, techniques, materials, equipment, and procedures used in physiotherapy and their application in specific cases
  • Knowledge of skeletal, muscular and neural anatomy and physiology as it applies to physiotherapy
  • Knowledge of the potential hazards involved in physiotherapy treatments and precautionary measures to be taken
  • Ability to adjust and make minor repairs of equipment and skill in manipulation used for treatments
  • Ability to write reports and keep necessary records
  • Previous experience working in long-term care considered an asset
  • Previous experience in rehabilitation and geriatrics considered an asset
  • Willingness to travel within the region; travel costs per kilometer
  • A passion for the healthcare sector and/or ensuring seniors have access to quality accommodations, services and care
