Description: Reporting to the Director of Quality & Resident Care, the Physiotherapist works with the residents of our home to ensure they receive proper assessment and evaluation regarding their functional health, developing treatment plans and working towards optimal resident health as part of the quality and resident care team.  The Physiotherapist also serves as a resource and educator on quality improvement initiatives and risk management activities.


  • Adheres to Nova Scotia College of Physiotherapists professional standards for Physiotherapists.
  • Participates in the organizational goals of the facility. Carries out tasks and daily work following the procedures and standards of Glen Haven Manor.
  • Is knowledgeable of the fire regulations and emergency plan and is aware of responsibilities in an emergency.
  • Assess all new residents and those referred by the RN/DQRC.
  • Identifies problems and goals for referred residents. Formulates a treatment plan and communicates this plan to the LPN/RN.
  • Modify and revise the treatment plan as required.
  • Completes and maintains progress notes. Completes reports for DVA, WCB or the Department of Health.
  • Responsible for co-managing and working alongside the OT/PT Aide and giving them direction for continuation of care when not present in the building.
  • Ensures the appropriate approvals for funding are in place prior to ordering any equipment.
  • Consult and communicate with nurses and medical personnel and outside resources to meet the resident’s needs.
  • Provide professional development for staff as necessary to implement recommendations on enhanced care plans.
  • Awareness of Accreditation process and relevant components relating to provision of Physiotherapy services.
  • Order and obtain equipment that is required for therapeutic purposes.

Skills And Abilities:

  • The ability to communicate effectively, and in a positive courteous manner;
  • Show sound professional judgement and initiative as an active member of the health care team;
  • Willingness to learn and apply new concepts in the clinical fields of health care knowledge;
  • Ability to work harmoniously with residents and staff.


  • Graduate of a recognized school of physiotherapy.
  • Registration with the provincial College of Physiotherapists (member in good standing).
  • Experience in a long-term care facility preferred.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated commitment to professional development.
  • Current Vulnerable Sector Check
