This module will cover the scientific evidence and hands-on techniques for implementing interventions to address the underlying impairments that contribute to altered skin integrity. It is step 3B of an evidence based, multi-level educational program created in partnership with the Canadian Physical Therapy Wound Care Collaborative designed for physiotherapists. The module includes approximately two hours of on-line learning and an in-person 1-day workshop that will focus on safe exercise prescription and other physiotherapy interventions that are known to manage chronic leg edema, improve ankle ROM and calf muscle strength, provide effective offloading and/or pressure re-distribution strategies for people with diabetic foot ulcers or pressure injuries, and help patients with wounds manage pain.
Level 3B is open to physiotherapists who have previously completed Levels 1 and 2 of the OPA Wound Care Management program. This course is also open to physiotherapists who are currently rostered with the College of Physiotherapists of Ontario for Wound Care, or those who practice under medical directive, but have not completed Levels 1 and 2 of the OPA Wound Management Courses.
